Summary

With increasing demand and complexity of closure activities, Australia’s commitment to positive post-mine outcomes presents opportunity to further develop the mine closure solutions industry providing rehabilitation, planning and specialist technical services. The economic, environmental and social value of the sector can be unlocked through:

  • Improving rehabilitation outcomes
  • Extraction of value from mine waste
  • Establishing post-mining land uses

The project will:

  1. Identify growth opportunities for Australian businesses, including for export and First Nations businesses
  2. Quantify the potential economic value of the mine closure solutions industry
  3. Determine mine closure challenges and highlight available innovative solutions, uncovering areas for research and development.
  4. Identify ecosystem enablers and R&D priorities to activate the sector
