Summary

The capabilities required to plan for and implement sustainable mine land rehabilitation and repurposing necessitate a breadth of technical and interpersonal skills and knowledge that exist and intersect across environmental, socio-economic and regulatory fields of expertise.

Through a combination of desktop research and focused consultations, this project aims to determine the education and training requirements for key groups involved in or impacted by mine closure. These priority cohorts include specific occupational profiles within the mining industry, the mining equipment, technology, and services (METS) industry, regional and First Nations communities, as well as governmental entities. The objective is to ensure the relevance of identified training needs for individuals associated with mine closures.
