Join us to explore lessons for Australia from the shaping of new development pathways in Saxony, Germany, as the region undergoes major structural change associated with the end of coal mining.

The session will explore:

  • ways of designing effective growth paths, taking into account demographic shifts, industrial diversification and environmental remediation of coal mines.
  • tools and strategies, including policy interventions.

Dr Friedrich Dornbusch, Head of Regional Transformation and Innovation Policy and Fraunhofer ISI Leipzig, will present the session. He will be joined by colleague Dr Benjamin Klement.

Regional development leader Chris Buckingham will contextualise for Australia and, in particular, the Latrobe Valley region.
